Three people died and two more were injured after a tragic car crash in upstate New York Friday, May 3.
The car accident happened in the St. Lawrence County community of Oswegatchie. From what we know of the incident, it sounds like the kind of occurrence that could just as easily happen here in New York City.
Authorities believe that around 9:45 a.m., one vehicle drifted into the lane of oncoming traffic and collided head-on with another vehicle.
Two passengers and the driver of the first vehicle were killed immediately. A third passenger in that vehicle and the driver of the second vehicle were taken to local medical facilities. As of the last update given to the public, the passenger is in critical condition and the driver is in stable condition.
Authorities have not identified the victims. They also have not elaborated on any potential cause of the accident because it is still under investigation.
There are many reasons for car accidents. Some, such as swerving to avoid an animal that has suddenly darted into the road, are not really anyone’s fault. Other causes, however, like someone texting rather than paying attention to the road, come about thanks to poor decisions that endanger other, innocent people.
