The difficult winter we’ve all experienced here in New York has had wide-ranging impacts. A recent accident on the New York State Thruway involving seven vehicles was apparently set into motion when a plow truck overheated and pulled off to the side of the road. The engine compartment began to smoke, leading the truck driver to pull onto the shoulder. While it was a good thing that the truck was able to get off the road, the excessive smoke apparently led to the motor vehicle accident.
The smoke caused a car behind it to swerve out of the lane. That car hit a second car as a result. A different car in the left lane then sideswiped the plow truck’s protruding blade.

Apparently seeing the chaos in front of him, the driver of a fourth car slowed down in an apparent attempt to negotiate the worsening situation. However, that vehicle was rear-ended by a semi truck. The force of that collision drove the car into the rear of another semi truck. The driver of the car was killed at the scene, and the road as closed for almost six hours as the wreckage was cleared.
